7 Things your salon website must have!
I know what you’re thinking: are websites even necessary these days? Well the short answer is: YES! In this article I’m going to go over the top 7 things your salon website needs & why.
First of all, Hi! My name is Jae, I have been a stylist for 10 years and a successful salon owner for the last 4. I started my salon thinking that Instagram & Facebook would be enough to get my name out there, and it did an okay job at first. I quickly realized having a website would save me a lot of time & stress, and also give me the professional look I was going for. Below I will list the things that made my website truly worth it.
Online Booking.
Online booking is essential to any business that is appointment based. So many people don’t like to call businesses or even can’t call businesses. Online booking opens up oppurtunites to get bookings even outside of your business hours. Being specific with your online booking descriptions helps to eliminate too much confusion between you and the clients. You can also have a general 5 or 6 options for new clients based on time and how much a change they want to eliminate the process of trying to figure out the difference between a blowout and a silk press or a full highlight vs a full balayage.
Bio
It’s important for potential clients and applicants to know about you and your salon, clients will book with you because they like you and salon just as much as because they like the work you do. In my bio I like to include fun facts like the fact that I’m a gemini and I’m obsessed with Hello Kitty, but I also like to include my favorite services, like curly sets and vivid colors.
Contact Information
The easier it is for a client to contact you the more likely they are to do so. If they go on your website and can’t find a phone number or email quickly it will be an immediate turn off for the client. For my contact I like to include my name/salons name, phone number, email address, physical address, and all my socials.
Specialties
There is a big focus on what stylists and salons specialize in these days so on your booking page or bio page put the things that your salon specializes in as a whole or what each stylist specializes in and really give some detail and provide credentials to give new clients confidence in your skill.
Blog
As you can see I like to talk a bit, but I do my best talking through text or written out, so I love to express myself through my blog. A blog is a good tool to answer common questions clients and even other stylists may have. You can go into more detail on a blog post than you can in a service description. You can discuss topics that you have learned over time in the industry that you wish someone had written a blog post about for you when you first started,
Products You Use
Some clients search for salons based on products that they like. These could be color products, shampoo and conditioner, or even hot tools. Sometimes stylists move or stop doing hair and their clients fall in love with the products they used, if you happen to use these same products then you may have just earned yourself some new clients!
Photos & Videos
Lots of photos and videos of your work, your staff, and your personalities, clients want to get to know you from your website. Make sure your vibe is showing and be proud of who you are! You only want to attract clients who are in your target market so your client facing vibe should be that of a stylist that would attract the clients you want in your chair!
*Bonus: Applications
As a full commission salon owner having applications for stylists and assistants is perfect for me, even when I’m not in the hiring process I will still have those submissions to look over if a position should come available. Another type of application can be a client application, this is usually for really niche salons who only do specific services, like only curly hair or lived in color etc. you can have someone apply to be a client and if they are a good fit great if they are not a good fit you can recommend another local salon for them to try.
I Hope these tips will help you when building your salon website. These things have helped my salon website gain a good amount of traffic from both stylists looking for tips, owners looking for advice, & clients looking for appointments.
Catch you on the next one!
